چکیده

We provide a simple method to assess stability and capacity of general Exponential Backoff (EB) mechanisms in the case of two contending stations. We prove that, in the case of Binary EB with balanced traffic, the system is stable for total arrival rates up to λ = 0.6096, which represents also the capacity of the system. Furthermore, we obtain the capacity curve also for the case of unbalanced traffic.

Hybrid Binary Exponential Back-Off Mechanism for Wireless Sensor Networks

Many mechanisms to improve the performance have been proposed in the IEEE 802.15.4 Wireless sensor networks area, due to its high influence in the modern day world. Most of them have improved the performance of the network compared to the standard CSMA/CA backoff method. But still there are improvements to almost every method proposed. In this paper, we have proposed a hybrid binary exponential...

Stability and Instability Conditions for Slotted Aloha with Exponential Backoff

This paper provides stability and instability conditions for slotted Aloha under the exponential backoff (EB) model with geometric law i 7→ b0 , when transmission buffers are in saturation, i.e., always full. In particular, we prove that for any number of users and for b > 1 the system is: (i) ergodic for i0 > 1, (ii) null recurrent for 0 < i0 ≤ 1, and (iii) transient for i0 = 0. Furthermore, w...

A Comparative Study of the Traditional Model of Ieee 802.15.4 and Non-overlapping Binary Exponential Backoff Ieee 802.15.4

This paper introduces a performance model of a recently proposed backoff technique named Nonoverlapping binary exponential backoff algorithm over IEEE 802.15.4, which is designed for LRWPAN. To reduce the collision rate in highly populated wireless networks, non-overlapping binary exponential backoff tries to evenly distribute the random backoff delay by distinguishing the new range of backoff ...

Improving Throughput in Wireless Local Area Networks

The medium access control (MAC) technique of standard WLANs, called the distributed coordination function (DCF), is carrier sense multiple access based on collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) scheme with binary slotted exponential backoff. It has a two way handshaking technique for packet transmission and also defines an additional four way handshaking technique called RTS/CTS mechanism, which is used...

The IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function in Small-Scale Ad-Hoc Wireless LANs

The IEEE 802.11 standards for wireless local area networks define how the stations of an ad-hoc wireless network coordinate in order to share the medium efficiently. This work investigates the performance of such a network by considering the two different access mechanisms proposed in these standards. The IEEE 802.11 access mechanisms are based on the carrier sense multiple access with collisio...
